One of the foundational steps in improving LGBT representation is offering comprehensive character customization options. While Baldur's Gate 3 allows players to define their character's appearance, expanding these options to include a wider range of gender identities and expressions can make the game more inclusive. Introducing non-binary, genderfluid, and other gender identities beyond the traditional binary can provide players with the ability to create characters that genuinely reflect their identities. Additionally, allowing for nuanced expressions of sexuality, such as pansexuality, asexuality, and aromanticism, can ensure that players of all orientations feel seen and represented.
Beyond customization, the narrative and relationship mechanics within Baldur's Gate 3 play a crucial role in representation. Developing storylines that explore diverse LGBT experiences can add depth and authenticity to the game. This includes creating well-rounded LGBT characters with their own backgrounds, motivations, and arcs, rather than relegating them to stereotypical roles. Furthermore, allowing for same-sex relationships and ensuring that these relationships are treated with the same complexity and significance as heterosexual ones can enhance the player's connection to the game. Including quests or storylines that specifically address LGBT themes can also provide meaningful content that resonates with players.
Authentic representation extends to the game's voice acting and writing. Collaborating with LGBT writers and voice actors can ensure that characters are portrayed with genuine depth and sensitivity. This collaboration can help avoid tokenism and ensure that LGBT characters are integrated seamlessly into the game's world. Moreover, providing dialogue options that reflect a variety of LGBT experiences allows players to engage with the narrative in a way that feels true to their identities. Sensitivity readers and consultants can further aid in crafting dialogues and storylines that respect and accurately represent LGBT communities.
The gaming experience is not limited to the game itself but also encompasses the community surrounding it. Establishing and promoting safe spaces within the Baldur's Gate 3 community, such as moderated forums and inclusive events, can foster a welcoming environment for LGBT players. Encouraging respectful discourse and providing support for players facing discrimination can enhance the overall gaming experience. Additionally, highlighting and celebrating LGBT content within the game through official channels can signal the developers' commitment to inclusivity.
Active involvement of the LGBT community in the game's development process can lead to more authentic and meaningful representation. Conducting focus groups, surveys, and playtests with LGBT players can provide valuable insights into their experiences and expectations. This feedback can inform design decisions, ensuring that the game's representation aligns with the community's needs and desires. Furthermore, creating advisory boards or committees composed of LGBT individuals can offer ongoing guidance and accountability throughout the development lifecycle.
Improving LGBT representation in Baldur's Gate 3 is not merely about ticking boxes for diversity but about enriching the game's narrative and fostering an inclusive environment where all players feel valued and seen. By expanding character customization, developing inclusive storylines, ensuring authentic representation through voice acting and writing, creating supportive community spaces, and involving the LGBT community in development, Baldur's Gate 3 can set a benchmark for inclusivity in RPGs. Embracing these enhancements not only benefits LGBT players but also contributes to a richer, more diverse gaming landscape that celebrates the myriad of human experiences.
Edit:
Please don't 🤡 me.
Edit 2:
Please ban the 🤡 award. It ruins profiles.
Edit 3:
1 🤡 = 1 dead anime girl
Atm textures look like I'm playing BG3 on the N64! :P
Don't give him clown rewards, he just wrote all of this for that...
Dang it
I'll just mention some names to avoid spoilers, but companions feel too calm to these scenes, and no follow up comments / dialogues:
Alfira/Quill (esp. Quill), Withers, Gortash reunion.
Also in the 'dream about future' scenes at the end of many romances (I know Gale, Astarion, Shadowheart have them), Dark Urge's status (Unresolved/Resolved in either way) might need to be mentioned.
Interface
1. Add UI scaling.
2. Add a setting to speed up the dice roll animation (so that you don’t have to click the mouse every time to speed it up).
3. Add a setting to speed up the battle animation by 2 times.
4. Add the setting to always press "Alt" (to highlight objects). We're tired of holding the Alt button...
5. When you hover the cursor, show information about whether a book has been read or not (including books from merchants).
6. In the alchemy tab, show the properties of the future elixir or potion, and not just the name.
7. When trading with NPCs, scrolls will display information about what spells the character has already learned and what level is required for this spell.
8. When sorting, put identical items into one cell automatically (now this has to be done manually). And yes, why can’t the infernal iron be put into one cell? After all, enriched iron is possible! Give me the opportunity to fold infernal iron too.
9. Add text chat for multiplayer games.
10. Add a button to change floor (sometimes it can be difficult to move between floors because of the camera).
11. Add WASD controls. Moving the keys is really very convenient for many people.
Balance
12. It is necessary to upgrade the weapon to red (very rare), which can be crafted in the infernal forge (at the end of Act 1). Now it is blue (rare) and absolutely useless, as it is worse than even some green ones.
13. Act 3 bosses should be strengthened.
14. The dragonborn race should be strengthened (the dragonborn are the only race with only 1 ability, when other races have 4-5 abilities).
Basic moments
15. Give the opportunity to choose who will conduct the dialogue during a dialogue that has already started! Ideally, who will answer each question. If it is possible to switch during dialogue, that would be just great!
16. After the finale and the end of the game, it would be good to see the statistics of the game - what percentage of additional quests were completed, how much gold we received, how many enemies we killed, what key decisions were made during the passage, etc. The result of our passage in one picture (we would be interested to know the result of our passage and compare it with our friends).
17. Add a crafting profession! There are a lot of different stones, metals and materials in the game, of which there is a lot, but there is nowhere to use it (or there is a lot left over). We want to create new unique equipment!
18. Add the possibility of a romance with Jaheira.
19. When you started an affair with one of your companions, it would be logical that they now sleep together in the camp.
Graphic arts
20. Add support for DirectX 12
21. Add support for DLSS 3.5 (this already includes Super Resolution, Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction)
22. Add support for FSR 3.0
23. Add support for Path Tracing (or at least Ray Tracing)
Miscellaneous
24. Add Steam cards and a Steam game profile in the style of Baldur's Gate 3. We've been waiting for this for so long!
25. Add Steam Workshop support!
