The movie takes place largely in Neverwinter and briefly in Icewind Dale, both of which have already had games made around them. I doubt we'll visit there in this game.
The movie name-drops the city of Baldur's Gate, which this game will focus on.
There were some wtf moments, but I did appreciate it was as lighthearted as it gets. This was a step in the right direction after the awful first movies.
Nice, they did movie too, I thought only tv-show.
There were many things in the movie that are part of Early Access, and possibly gave us glimpses of additions to the full version of the game. The movie is an obvious advertising method for the game release, and vice versa.
As has been mentioned, they name dropped Baldur’s Gate, as a reference to the game release, even though they never ventured there. Mirroring Early Access so far.
Edgin Darvon the Bard/Rogue is/was a member of the Harpers. You encounter multiple Harpers stashes throughout Early Access and learn some of their lore from books in those stashes.
Doric the Druid belongs to the Emerald Enclave in the movie. The name of the Druid sanctuary of Silvanus’ Grove in the game is the Emerald Grove, and the Druid’s there are aligned with the Emerald Enclave.
Szass Tam and the Red Wizards of Thay feature prominently in an underground area of the Blighted Village in the game, as you have to read books about Thay and Tam to answer the questions to get through the mirror to retrieve the book Necromancy of Thay.
The Underdark area in the movie is a very large explorable area in Early Access, with multiple major quests and locations in it.
The party in the movie used the Hither Thither staff to place a portal on an oval painting frame and then put the painting back on top of the portal to cover it up. The painting is a picture of Volothamp Geddarm. Volo, for short, plays a very comical NPC story arc in the game.
They also showed owlbears, intellect devourers, mimics, and Githyanki, all of which are in Early Access. They even prominently featured Dragonborn, which we can all hope become a playable race in the full version of the game. We can wish for displacer beasts to be in the full version as well.
One of the best Easter eggs though is the fresh cut grass spell. For those of you who know about Critical Role, you surely got this reference to Sam Riegel’s aeormaton Cleric character named Fresh Cut Grass from the series.
