Also i thought i saw a mention that wotc themselves are actually making it official
THe fat dragon or the paladin owning everyone solo while others just watched were just a few from the wtf moments list... Not sure what those were all about not to mention he didn't smite anyone? The rest of the paladin was done cool especially the goody-two-shoes Lawful stupid part.
Ow and IF bg 3 had even the smallest tiny amount of party interaction as the movie does it would be cool, saidly that's not the case at all.
Larain should watch it to see how you truly make a party vibes come to life.
THat or lord of the rings would be even better if you truly want a good exmaple of fellowship party vibes. But ok this is a DND game and DnD movie can be a direct comparions i guess, if you ignore the platform difference.
They can add a staff that lets you teleport around that would be cool swap it out with the crapy https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Mourning+Frost.
Not sure what Thember was doing there, thought they were meant to be in Gracklstugh, which also begs the question of what happened to Daurgothoth.
---
Felt like the paladin was meant to be representative of the 'special guest' or 'that one guy that takes everything too seriously / only dedicated role player in a group of casuals - and then just disappearing out of the story by walking off the screen like an npc.
The last part makes sense given if what I heard about Pine's character being representative of the player that always forgets to use their abilities is true.
Overpowered, zero weaknesses, has a "wait here while I handle the enemies in a cinematic fashion" moment, custom weapon, continually saves the day, knows exactly where to go and what to do. At least the "DM" in this case had enough sense to have the character join late and leave early, to not entirely eclipse the rest of the group.
i guess the main character was the face of the party, bard i reckon, that somehow forgot how to cast spells? But at least he knew how to use bardic inspiration by making A, B, C plans heh and cheer up the party with a songs and jokes.
My fav was when intellect devourers go by doing nothing, cos they all dumped their int lol
Leaps and bounds better than any other D&D movie/TV show that’s been done.
That's a pretty low bar to clear though, I thought the movie was ok, nothing special, but I didn't hate it.
Except the 1993 Mario Brothers movie which was incredible
Doesn't reinvente the wheel nor the genre, but it does effeciently and simply what its supposed to do, Entertain.
Its a Fun, no-nonsens, to the point, Heist movie, with comedy that isn't tacky and lands 80% of the time, with some wholesome moments and a few tearjerkers.
The action is good and readable, the scenes can be intense, the use of magic is good and clever.
Mix of practical and CGI effects, sometimes the practical makeups and costumes looks like a 90's fantasy movie done by the Henson team, and i don't mind, it gives it an oldschool charm.
The characters are lovable, non-obnoxious, they have their moments to shine , each plays into their strenghts, they have flaws but learn to overcome them through efforts and personal growth.
The chemestry between them works well enough.
The Pacing is good enough that you don't get bored, but with some momentsd where you can breath and take the scenes in.
Visually its good, its not the most ultra amazing thing that anyone has ever seen, but its nice looking enough that you're like "Ooh thats neat"
The plot is simple, but not simplistic and dull.
You arn't shat on with a ton of Lore dump exposition, just the few name dropping here and there, wich makes the movie welcoming for those that knows nothing about D&D lore, but there's enough for even the hardcore fan to notice stuff and be like "Heck yeah!"
Neat entertaining adventure/Heist/buddy movie, with actors playing their characters well.
Shame that the releae of the movie is tarnished by the boycott that people have Vs WotC in general these past few weeks.
