act 2: infernal iron save bug?

just got to last night inn and found dammon. i KNOW had a few infernal iron pieces. we get to talking to him and we get karlach all patched up. it’s going good.
i then start talking to the strange ox, goes bad and he turns into the slime blob and we fight. it kills dammon and i could not live with that.
so i reloaded my last save, which was during the dialogue with dammon and he was giving the good and bad news to karlach, and i had the iron on me. so my dialogue options included “go on, give him the iron. let’s make this happen”. but since i reloaded it, it’s saying “option no longer available” in the top left.
i’ve read up on a few things, reloading it, shutting the game off and then reloading it; no dice.
now the weirder and upsetting part is the next thing i tried, which was reloading farther back. i get back to dammon and now the dialogue changed to say i don’t have ANY iron on me and to go find it at these locations???
i’m just so confused on how all my iron on all my saves is just gone now. :( i just didn’t want dammon to die. i didn’t know reloading would cause such an issue.

has anyone ever experienced this? does anyone know if there’s a way to fix it? or would i just have to find them again?

Hotfix 16 quest items bug. Sorry, I'm getting so tired of typing out how to deal with it, but it's mod caused.

As I said, this problem could be multi-causal, so if you have no mods, my next suggestion is to contact Larian Support.

Only other thing I can offer is a possible post-HF 16 workaround: some folks are saying if you leave quest items in your camp chest instead of inventory, the quest items can be handed in.
