[Patch 6] Gale and the Crown of Karsus

Obvious spoilers, but after acquiring the Annuls of Karsus, despite choosing the dialogue options that I KNOW result in Gale deferring to Mystra and agreeing to surrender the Crown to her and after triggering the unique cutscene on long rest where he apologizes for his behaviour and promises to do better (thus getting the professor ending), he will NOT be dissuaded from going after the Crown.

It all goes exactly as it is meant to, right up until the conversation in Stormshore Tabernacle where when choosing the option "Seek her forgiveness, Gale" he responds saying that if I want him to go after the Crown the forgiveness may not be on the table.
Gale, sweetie, I do NOT want that.

I tried disabling mods and loading a save without any mods, but it's still broken and he will not leave the crown alone.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Check this thread why disableing mods might not do what you think it does.

When you disable or remove a mod, it does not necessarily mean that all the changes it has made or added to the game are removed. Actually it is mostly common that lingering effects stay, and they will eff up the game most likely. Especially so if the version of the game changes.

But it is possible that even that will not fix your current game and will lead to losing your saves.

You might wait for the creator of the mods to update their mods to work with patch 6 however again it is entirely possible that it will still not work well and thus your issue persists.
