The game keeps crashing my computer

Good evening. Baldur's gate 3 keeps crashing shortly after launching it. The screen freezes and goes black. Sometimes it even makes my PC reboot! Malwarebyte's anti-ransomware protection is also deactivated. It's really annoying...

Am I the only one having this problem?

My advice is to stop launching the game at all until a patch is released. Crashes of this kind can corrupt system files. I've had the same issue and have had to repair certain systems. Unfortunately we just can't play until this is resolved.

Nah a ton of folks do. You also proved a lot of info not really needed;) Do you get an error code by any chance when you crash? (Event 117 and 141 by any chance?)

Nothing at all. The screen freezes or goes black and nothing responds. Keyboard, mouse out of action. Forced to shut down computer.

Hm did you try to use ALT+TAB? (allthough if it forces a shutdown ...)

Also have you tried to reinstall the game? Also trying to use DX11 or Vulkan or you get it under both?

I can't do anything. When this happens, the keyboard stops responding. As far as Vulkan is concerned, it's the first thing I tried. But the problem is the same. I switched to DirectX11 but it's the same. Last night, after several tries, the game started to work normally without freezing. I don't understand why.

Yeah we don't know. A lot of us are having these issues and we're just stuck waiting. Hopefully some time within the week, as I'm sure the devs are aware of the issue.

Having similar issue. Updated nvidia graphics driver and now game is repeatedly crashing, or screen tearing and artifacting. Uninstalled/reinstalled - didn't fix isssue. Uninstalled/reinstalled nvidia driver and suite - didn't fix issue. uninstalled everything inlcuding steam, which broke and I had to delete steam files from safe mode because of locked Larian directory stuff in steamapps. reinstalling game again now after reinstall of driver and steam. hoping that fixes the issue.

I wish you too. If not, can't there be the possibility of a virus or an attack? I mean... isn't it possible that someone could go through the Steam platform and then go after all the accounts connected to it? Because how come Malwarebyte's ransomware protection breaks when this happens 🤔

I have exactly the same problem. The screen turns off after 5-10 minutes of the game and the system reboots. The computer is new, intel 13600k 3060ti.
