Microsoft Basic Render Driver?
Just bought the game and start it up and the loading of the main menu takes minutes, when it finally loads its less than 1 FPS. After a painfully long animation I manage to slowly get to the graphics options and its set to "Microsoft Basic Render Driver" which I assume is the reason its performing so bad. I try to click it to choose my actual graphics card/driver and there are no other options. What.
How do I fix that?

Does your graphics card show up in the Device manager? If it doesnt, there might be a hardware or driver issue. Also check that all your drivers are up to date, if they are and it still doesnt work try re-installing graphics drivers.

Everything is up to date, have been checked and re-installed then updated again. Everything works perfectly everywhere except with BG3. :/
I have this same issue, but it only started being a problem for me last month after Patch #4 released. I checked Task Manager and it said I was using the right graphics card (AMD Radeon), but the game options didn't recognize it or give me an option to switch off of the default display adapter. I also checked that the graphics card was enabled in Device Manager and that my drivers were up to date.

Joculari, did you find out how to resolve this issue since posting this topic?

Memory is a bit foggy on how I solved it tbh. I think it was something about the graphics driver or my gpu. I have a vague memory of having to go into devices to basically turn my gpu back on in devices in the windows settings. Or turning it off and on again to "refresh" it.. or something.
From what I understood about it there was something interfering with the gpu being recognised by the game so it reverts to using the basic render driver.

I ended up wiping my graphics drivers using DDU (https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/) and doing a clean install directly from AMD's website, rather than automatic updates through Windows. That appears to have fixed the problem. I'm not sure why that was necessary, but I'm not gonna complain.
