Gekh Coal bugged or possible all similar characters

So I am with Glut came down to kill Duegers. I did that. I brought Gekh Coal back to life with Gluts ability that brings them to life as apparently half sporelike monster. Anyway. I then clicked on the boat down below as I have a quest to go save some Gnomes.
Glut said he could not join me I said ok wait here.

After that I click on boat again and this is where it the bug or problem is.

Gekh Coal is starting dialogue with me and then he attacks me. So now I have to kill fight him again but now as a sporelike version of him.

I am sure this is not supposed to happen as he is under my command.

I finished him with "Pommel Strike" which I think is not supposed to kill anyone.

He had 1 life left I used pommel strike and it said he took 0 damage. But he died anyway.

Log says nothing about experience either.
