Game doesn't accept input from Steam Deck built in controls
I can't play this game on my Steam Deck in handheld mode because it won't respond to any inputs that I give in using the built-in Steam Deck controller. To be clear, it's not switching to keyboard mode - the opening screen says "Press A to continue" and nothing happens when I press A.

I'm only having this issue with Baldur's Gate 3, and it's only with the built-in Steam Deck controls (if I connect an external controller to my Steam Deck it accepts input from that.)

I'm playing on an original deck (non-OLED) with no mods installed. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, deleting the game in desktop mode and doing a clean install, switching to different versions of Proton (including Experimental and Hotfix) and run it with Steam Input disabled. None of these have made a difference.

Same here. I hadn’t played in a several
months and now it seems nearly unplayable. Have you figured it out yet?
So I tried so many combinations of reinstalling, fiddling with desktop mode, different Proton versions, fiddling with Steam inputs. None of them worked. Eventually I stumbled on the following that worked for me. First quit out of BG3 then navigate to:

Steam menu > Settings > System > toggle on 'Enable Developer mode'

Library > BG3 Game Settings (gear icon) > Developer > select 'Clear Selected Controller Layout'

It finally reset to the officially supported controller profile!
