Benryn won't get up despite being rescued

Benryn at Waukeen's Rest won't get up despite being rescued. I've done via cutscene checks and by attacking the wood holding him down. I notice that when I do "rescue" him, it applies the knocked down condition, but the condition doesn't show up on him. Luckily he's invulnerable to the fire and that I can still talk to him just outside the room (though being blinded by the smoke), and that it still does the Mirileth cutscene. Strangely, if I attempt to steal from Mirilith's corpse, he's still able to confront me despite not being physically close enough to detect me.

Update: After the steal attempt, I reloaded the save and it has moved him near Mirilith's corpse and is weeping appropriately.

Yeh that NPC is bugged. You can save the guy by using Shoving action on him. So you push him outside. Then i was able to do his full quests. Just talk to him outside. Later on the quests he was relocated next to her dead woman. Then he was on normal state.
