You need about 82 GB free space to install the patch. During patching Steam makes full copy of the game so as BG3 is currently about 82 GB, you need additional 82 GB free space for patching, for total of about 165 GB.
Also this is the first patch for BG3 - previous ones were not patches but hotfixes which seems to be installed differently.
This is actually a Issue the developers have created due to how steam handles file updates.
GGG "Path of exile" spent years before they solved it, and they finaly did due to complains. 3.11.2
Keep telling them that 82gig backups is not ok for 100mb patches and maybe they will lisen.
It creates unessesary long pach times and wear on Hardware.
Edit:
For OP Herr Mainyu, Just uninstall and reinstall the game.
It's actually not any slower if your not on limited bandwith. As BG3 would back up the whole game anyway then vertify it. Your saves and setting is safe in another folder and will not be deleted if you uninstall the game.
Reinstall the full game is how i have handled the problem with Conan exiles. i have enought free space on other, non SSD internal HDD but since it took so long, it seems i need a new SSD with enought free space...^^
What use is there in doing this if you cannot save games?
In other words, just logged off after finding out that my games that I had saved from my current session of playing did not save to cloud.
EDIT: Correction, the games are saving just not to cloud, just checked.
Saved games are stored in:
C:/users/%USERNAME%/My Documents/Larian Studioes/Baldurs Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/
(your settings is stored in the previous folder)
And will not get uninstalled with the game.
