Joining Failed: Connection Failed - FIX?

A friend and I began an online campaign recently, and we have had no issues loading in the past.

Today, when I tried to join his server, an error that read, "Joining Failed: Connection Failed." I am unable to join the session.

I tried to start a new campaign to see if he could join, but he also failed to join, receiving the same error message.

I tried redownloading the game, resetting my Wi-Fi, disabled cloudsave etc.

Is there any way to fix this? We had no issues when we played yesterday. Is the issue on me end or theirs?

I just noticed the same problem for when I'm trying to join my friend's game. Seeing your post made me think its a game server problem or something. We are going to try again tomorrow and see if it improves.

I had the same problem today. My one friend hosts, and the other was able to connect no problem, but I couldn't. Tried several fixes, nothing worked.

put the game in windowed mode and join. that should fix it

Just to follow-up did you have any luck? I retried a few times without any luck. Clearing my cache completely worked one time, however, that method doesn't work any more!

I think a lot of people, myself included, are having this issue.

Same issue here. Friend tried to invite me to multi then I tried to invite him and no go. In another thread someone mentioned that they had success loading a much older save and after getting their friend in they were able to load their latest save and it worked. We tried this but again not happening. We had no issues last weekend and it was only after the latest patch that everything tanked. We ended up playing a totally different game in multiplayer and no issues, so its definitely something on Larian's side. Hopefully they can get a hotfix out soon.

having the same issue. i press connect to join my friends server, wait 30 second then connection failed. hopefully this gets patched soon

Not sure why it worked but everytime we had the issue my buddy would put the game in windowed mode and it would fix the issue

ah ic... hopefully there are other workaround or hotfix as this has been going on for a few days for us now. tried every possible solution but none works. thanks for highlighting your workaround.

As a followup my friend started a new game and was able to pull me into the character creation screen, then he loaded up the save we had been originally playing in and success! Hopefully that solution will hold for us. What I've been seeing in other threads is that different solutions seem to work for different people. Some people are able to connect when they use the Launcher, some are able to connect by loading a very old save, etc.

At the top of this subforum there's a post pinned with how to contact Larian to report issues. Thru the link there I submitted this issue as a bug report, others may want to do the same. If enough people report it then maybe Larian will notice.

I also have the exact same issue ! We were basically 30 mins away from finishing our first run. I really hope it's going to be solved !

Solved it for us by having the host restart Steam and not go into the Mod Manager at all before launching the multiplayer session. If she did then it caused this error.
