Mac game will not start XprotectService runs for hours

I have installed the game,
*restarted
*checked game files integrity
*run first aid on the game disk
*given steam Security Full Disk Access permissions via Settings/Privacy & Security
*given terminal Security Full Disk Access permissions via Settings/Privacy & Security
*run sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine on the game file
*run the game from the folder instead of steam

Right now its stuck Verifying "Baldur's Gate 3"...

sudo xattr -cr /Volumes/WD_BLACK/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Baldurs\ Gate\ 3/*
Completes with no errors
