Help: My Saved Games Won't Sync on Steam - Any Ideas

I am trying to play BG3 on a computer where I have not played it for three months. I have played it extensively on another computer. The saved games sync to Steam cloud and cross-save. When I got to the computer that I had not sued in three months of course it needed to update the game, which I did. But it could not sync the save game files. It just said"Sync Cloud Error." When I open the game the saved game files on the local system are very old (which makes sense).
Right now I am reinstalling the game on the older system .. but it is a long wait. Also I don't know if it will solve the problem since I don't know how to delete old saves, or even if that is a good idea.
Has anyone had this problem and do you know how to fix it?
