Unable to complete level up process in multiplayer

If I join someone in multiplayer I'm unable to level up. I can make all the choices and hit accept, but when I do that the screen goes slightly grey and stays looking at the character with the absence of the UI. I can still hear the journal opening up when I press the hotkey for it. This problem occurs for other people when they join a game I'm hosting, however I won't have the issue if I'm hosting. So if anyone can help figure out how to solve this that would be great. Some additional information: I did use mods in the past, but I deactivated them and deleted them in order to play with friends. I've tried verifying my game, uninstalling/reinstalling, and sent a ticket to Larian though they haven't given me much of a response. Thank you in advance.

You need to uninstall thoroughly, otherwise any leftover files from mods can and will cause incompatibilities. For most people using RevoUninstaller is therefore recommended as it will make sure nothing which can cause incompatibilities remains when you use the advanced scan options of that app.

Hey, just wanted to ping this and see if the advice given resolved your issue? I’m experiencing this with a buddy except I’m joining his game and not able to level up. He HAD mods, I never did. He’s also getting a new feat per level up which is also wonky.

He didn't just have mods. He still has mods. He may think he cleaned up mods but that's often not as thorough as one thinks.
Start with him following Larian's solid mod removal strategy:

Delete any files you find there
