Game Freezing Help Please
Hello!
I'm encountering an issue that according to my PC specs I really shouldn't be having. When entering dialogue, triggering a cut scene, hell, sometimes just clicking on an interactable object, my game freezes. I can go for a good half-hour to forty-five minutes with absolutely no issues, and then bam- totally locked out, BG3 not responding.
I've tried every fix from every article written about this it seems, even going so far as to test my RAM for faults/issues. I've run the game as an administrator directly from the executable. and still will encounter the same problem.

Unique issues/symptoms I guess that I've noticed as well is that when force quitting the game Steam still thinks it's running, and it takes forever for Steam to stop the game- I usually have to force-quit Steam or even restart my computer to get it to actually stop running the game so that I can then start the game again.

Sometimes after I've force-quit the game, my saved games will not appear - there's a weird situation where sometimes it loads my games I have saved as Tav, where I'm in Act II, and sometimes it loads a character I started when I thought my original saves were gone that I named Boaz. That character has just escaped the Nautilus.

Additionally my Task Manager reports that nothing is running during this issue; is it possible something is wrong with my Task Manager?

I'm new to PC gaming (but generally fairly decent with computers) so I'm hoping the community might be able to help me out. Maybe someone else is having this problem as well?

Any help/guidance is deeply appreciated.

PC Specs
CPU: Intel Core i3 9100
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050
Motherboard: ASRock B365M Pro4-F
RAM: DDR$
Storage: WDC WD10EZEX-00BBHA0, PNY CS900 240 GB SSD

Fixes Tried
Verify Install
Update Drivers
Reduce Graphics (We are totally optimized for just performance, running at 720p etc.)
Run as Administrator
Start from bin file, skipping launcher/steam
Reinstall game
Check RAM
Turned off VSync/cross-saving (an early fix that took me from crashing every ten to the 45ish minutes of playtime I get now)

What you initially described can be solved with this

try it out then report back

Thank you! That helped the memory leak issue, still having trouble with the game freezing. But at least one problem is gone! Appreciate it!

Excuse me, have you found any solution to this problem? Also which Windows version are you using? I have some friends with less powerful PCs, and the game runs fine on theirs, but I'm experiencing the same issue with the game freezing. However, I'm using Windows 11, while they are using Windows 10.

That is normal if you did not setup Windows 11 correctly. Windows 11 is famous for its efficiency mode and its negative impact on games which are not set right. E.g. when people make the mistake and try running games in fullscreen mode, despite that being a legacy feature.

Same kind of issue for me, see my fixes and post, link below (needs some editing, but useful; waiting for Steam to allow the post).

Your game files are likely corrupt, even if they re-verify. follow clean install steps here:

My experience getting the game working here:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1086940/discussions/3/6504942507055303275/

Be sure your drivers are clean installed for GPU or any other performance sensitive hardware (Sound Card etc.); try using DDU (in safe mode only!) to fully remove old drivers, if you can't get factory driver install packages to clean install drivers, or otherwise want to be sure you get the cleanest driver install possible.

*Windows dropped a large .NET fix, and a 2H22 update for windows 10 in last 24hrs. Run game in Windowed/Borderless-Windowed mode.

**If you have a high-performance SSD hard drive (ie EVO 970), after everything above is done, be sure Performance Optimization (Samsung Magician Hardware) is turned off, as it seeks to delete "unused sectors" of data. Just optimize with Windows tools every couple of months, or let Windows do any SSD optimization.

cheers and best of luck, you will get the game fixed :2019clover::SlyNinja:
