Another dead PSU case
I happened to get this game for free from my brother a few days ago. About halfway through the starting ship segment, *BANG*, my power supply exploded. Having replaced the 850w PSU with a 1kw one, I can still stay it causes my power supply to get blisteringly hot when running BG3.
...
I have no idea why this seems to be so common with this game. I'm just going to chalk it up to the game using 100% of system resources available.

You do understand that is a PSU issue, not a game issue, yes?

You do understand that a game straining your system can 100% kill parts of it, yes?
The game is one of the most resource-heavy games on the market, so aging parts failing when confronted with it is almost expected. From what I'm seeing, this is a somewhat common occurrence, and may indicate a need for more powerful PSU cooling tech in the near future.

It seems you do not understand. End of discussion.

I have noticed that my CPU and GPU are running around 10 degrees hotter after the hotfixes compared to after patch 2...

not good, what changes do they make in the hotfixes that causes this?
