Performance so slow in Character Creator

The title screen was my first indicator of the game running slow. It barely moves when I'm pretty sure the transition should be quicker. WIth the first part, the dnd character sheet stuff, the little animation for the classes doesn't even start till the audio has played... Sometimes the animation never even finishes and gets stuck. I just clicked through randomly on my third attempt of opening the game. On this attempt, when I tried to change my character's appearance, the game froze. Nothing I clicked registered or anything. It did nothing and loaded nothing for several minutes. I was at least able to exit the game fine, but that's so far the only thing that has worked. I literally have everything I can change on the lowest settings, and it still runs horribly. I don't really know what to do at this point other than refund. Is there some secret to improving performance that I don't know? I haven't hit the 2 hour mark and I bought it last night. I just want to know if I should cut my losses or not.
