Auntie Ethel - Arcane Barrier treasure chest

I am unable to access the treasure chest protected by the arcane barrier after I kill Auntie Ethel in one round of combat (she doesn't disappear with the pregnant girl). I used speak to the dead on her and closed out the quest with the pregnant girls dead husband, but the arcane barrier persists. Any work around, or is this a bug?
