Been dealing with this issue for a bit and just figured I had to let it load for awhile until it just started working but after fully closing Medal the problem disappeared and the game booted up right away
what is medal.tv?
Its an overlay program that lets you clip moments when you are play. Good if you are play FPS games and want to save a play.
You deserve everything.
THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH <3
However, I just started dealing with it again tonight and was baffled. Things were still up to date and I have a fairly beefy streaming/gaming PC, so it shouldn't be a question of hardware performance. In desperation, I happened to find this post, and I do indeed use Medal, so I tried force quitting it in task manager before booting up the game (instead of a full uninstall like OP suggested). Immediately booted up just fine. Started Medal back up after the initial loadscreen and everything functions normally.
TL;DR: If you use Medal and want to continue using Medal, simply force quit it through task manager, start your game, then start Medal up again after you're done loading in.
Just give them a medal
If you have not already, try:
1. Uninstall any mods/mod manager you might have (you can always reinstall them once you get the game working again without them, and then you'll know if that's what is causing your issue or not).
2. Update your windows and graphics card drivers if they are out of date.
3. Verify your game files.
4. Reboot your PC.
5. Attempt to boot up your game.
You could also possibly try switching between Vulkan and DX11. I play with DX11, switched to Vulkan when I couldn't boot up the game, successfully loaded, then switched back and the DX11 version worked again.
Those steps resolved my issues for a little while before Medal started causing me problems again - but we were all dealing with frozen loadscreens, not CTD issues, so YMMV. Good luck!
Delete the contents of
%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\LevelCache
This is general tip from FAQ, but what they DONT tell you is that you can simply delete settings profile without losings saves if you have Steam Cloud enabled
%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles
First do a backup of ....\PlayerProfles\Public(or profile name)\Savegames
Then wipe this folder's contents
%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles
This helped.
