trying to read this mind will softlock you until you load a prior save or kill the character in conversation.

It's actually almost all the brains that you can put in the machine that soft lock you. You can also just shove the softlocked character away. After a couple of times/when far enough, it is freed from the dialogue

yea i figured that out a bit later, any brain not right next to the reading device when u get there will cause the issue. i was even thinking of the brains from the starting ship to read them but guess gotta settle for the 2 working non softlocking ones XD
