And i think they are not dead because there are no corpses... so :/
Nere merely hired the duergars. (That is why he has 1000 gold on him:P)
So if you kill Nere while the duergar are not involved in the fight, and the duergar remain alive, then basicly you made sure they have no reason to stay, and thus take their slaves with them.
If you want to save the gnomes, you either kill Nere and the Duergar, or kill the duergar and then nere.
Be sure not to leave it out the two duergar with a single gnome captive!
I've been through that fight about 6x in the past few days as it's *tough* and the gnomes aren't targeted by the duregar during the fight and I made sure to kill Nere in the first round.
If you use a waypoint to travel away/back to Grymforge after the fight, do they show up?
