Last time I am going to offer this today: share screenshots and savegames files for an external check.
Two of the savegames which are affected in your load game list.
Two of the savegames which are unafffected in your load game list. If everything is affected, share two of different version numbers.
Ok, here's a few saves that I'm unable to load. (I think)
EDIT: Didn't see your reply before I posted, there's 5 here sorry

This is a the first save with a different version number, which I am able to load in.

EDIT: Sorry this is taking me so long, I have to force close BG3 every time I try to verify one of my saves works or not :/

EDIT: This is so discouraging, this is literally dozens of saves and 50 hours back from my current location. Everything after these two show a different version number and I am unable to load past 60%.
Just wanted to say thank you for offering to help. Feeling really depressed and discouraged about this.
I am still looking into the issue right now with various methods. I still would like a screenshot of your load game screen where all your savegames are listed. I cannot promise that I can help right away, but I already learned something interesting which has not been mentioned in any post before in regards of the savegame size and how the game handles them.
Currently I am waiting for Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix 2.1. finishing to install, so I can test your savegame with the relevant versions after I have confirmed that your issue is not VRAM related.
Not getting your hopes up, but if I am done I have at least something Larian Support can make use of by Tuesday.
Ok, thank you! I took two screenshots, are these what you're looking for?

Mhm. That was what I wanted. I have good news and bad news for you.
Bad news, there is nothing I can do make it playable right now on the latest version of the game, but to send Larian Support my findings in regards of the problems with the merger files and savegame updater. I will submit the savegames you have provided alongside my own savegames with notes which should make them investigate why it looks like that Hotfix#4 reverted something introduced in Hotfix#2.1.
And here is the good news: your savegame is still okay as it is and fully usable with the previous version of the game. So once the matter with the updater is resolved, you can continue where you started.

Since I started my investigating on this immediately after you shared your file games (2 hours ago? feels like 3), I am quite beat and will take a break for now. However, you got my "stamp of approval" for collaborating with my research on the matter.
I wish I could do more for you, to make it magically work right away with the latest version. Instead I give you two useful advice, which are more valuable than on the first glance - maybe you already knew about it, just keep in mind, there is more to this advice than on the first glance. Make sure to roll an inspired Perception check.
1. To "save" your weekend, keep a calm mind knowing your savegames are still usable, but not right now. You could use the time to start a new playthrough without to worry about your affected savegame. I am currently playing "pseudo evil" The Dark Urge as a Drow and it is worthwhile. The time is spent with fun while waiting for the issue to resolve.
2. Try to find some space on your PC and always keep a single copy of the game's last version, so you will not be surprised when such an issue happens again. Go to your Steam Library, right-click on the game's entry, manage -> browse local files
then copy everything there you can see to a new location e.g. on a folder called BG3Hotfix4 (since the current version is hotfix4), you can use that version at your convenience while Steam is off by launching it directly from the executable.
I suggest to keep only version as backup for convenience. But of course if you want to make more backups, that is up to you. That being written, time for me to take a long rest ~
Thank you for investigating, and thanks for the advice. I appreciate all the help, and I'm just gonna roll a new character for now. Hope you enjoy your weekend too!
