Stuck at reward screen, can't close window or open main menu. Can only ALT-F4 to quit game

Save (just in case). Go to camp. Go back. Rescued NPC (M...something) should initiate dialogue. Afterwards the reward UI should behave normally.

It's basically the UI fighting out some weird state constellation.

Unfortunately the girl I was supposed to rescue runs through fire left over from the battle as soon as the game resumes, and she dies before I can even take control of my characters

Did you try going to camp & back? Maybe try talking to anyone (companion) to initiate the dialouge UI, then travel back. This might to the trick to kickstart the reward UI.

Yes it took a few tries. I threw a potion of fire resistance at her while in turn based mode, but that made her temporarily hostile. Luckily she didn't move or attack, so I just had to get all my group out of combat range and go to camp.
