Sovereign Glut causing strange soft lock UI Problems

So each time I take Sovereign Glut with me to the Decrepit Village, a conversation screen happens just as you spot the Deugar BUT in doing so, nothing appears on screen. You see your characters, you see the icons at the bottom of the screen for trade, attack, etc but no conversation. The actions and all that vanish. This has happened three times on two different characters. Once it even happened when I was trying to get my reward from the Myconids and Glut just forced a conversation on my character.

The only work around I found is to ignore him completely and just leave him, not even giving him a chance to come with me. Sure I miss out on a quest but I'd rather not be locked out of the rest of the game because of an NPC killing my UI.
