then see if they can connect with each other and start a new game.
If they can, then have them connect each other with the savegame relevant in your case. Depending on the outcome we will see what next steps to take.

on a side note: I actually was not finish, but I did not want to spoil it if you are content with how it works - the clean boot, as mentioned before, as it works it means something was missing in the deletion of files regarding the cache before. As the clean boot basically just starts with a clean slate where no cache had been before - ergo: something in the cache is causing the issue and if found in your main profile, you should be able to play normal again with your main profile. But for now, I am glad you can enjoy playing with your friends again, as I agree: that matters most.
