Wonderous Gloves losing bonus bardic inspiration point

So firstly i think i know the cause. On a whim i tried taking off and putting on the Wonderous Gloves when i was out of Bardic Inspiration. Sure enough, my intuition was right and it gave me back a single bardic inspiration point.

Unfortunately i think that messed the game's ability to count my maximum points, because after my next short rest i was left with only 4 instead of 5 points total. 4 being the current max for my lvl 7 bard, which should (and previously was) bumped to 5 with the gloves.

This was not fixed by taking another short rest with the gloves off, and putting them back on again. My max was at 4 after that rest, and stayed at 4 when i put the gloves on.

Saving and loading did not fix this either.

plz halp, my bard is already struggling enough as it is finding good loot. these were by far the best find thus far!

update: now it seems to be just broken whenever i take them off in any save, even in ones from before doing this "trick"

my max goes from 5 to 4 on taking them off, and not back up to 5 when putting them back on.

update 2: we have found this bug is ONLY with my character. if another character is respec'd to bard, the gloves work as intended for them.

update 3: doing the trick to get a "free" bardic inspiration point breaks it per character, permanently, across saves.
