Shield of Devotion *Bug*

I've had Wyll equip this Shield to provide a Level 1 spell slot for using Hex (which is a perfect use for this shield) but the spell slot has disappeared on his character. I have unequipped it and reequipped and the slot doesnt reappear. I've given it to Shadowheart and it works for her then give it back to Wyll and nothing appears. The bonuses appear (Shield Blow and Aid) and are usable, but the spell slot has disappeared from him entirely. Any help/fixes?

Wyll does not have shield proficiency so he cannot use the bonus effect of that shield. That is the reason. (If you equip it, you should see if you hover over the shield something like this: Not proficient with...or sg.)
What i cant tell you by heart and i just turned off my computer is if there is a seperate feat for shield useage or if they added that into medium prof.

He does in fact have shield proficiency and the slot level was working previously for multiple hours of gameplay until just recently.

As i said i just exited the game(shut down the computer too), but i checked on the BG site (wiki) and i could not find it. Allthough even in the relevant UI in the game it is hard to figure out what character has access to what:(
How i miss 3.5 or PF where you look at it, it is there and that is it.

Go to the shield in your inventory - mine says "spell slot depleted". I think the effect is still working but I cannot see the level 1 spell section on the UI once the spell has been spent (by Wyll). Whereas other caster classes have that section by default so it wouldn't disappear even if the charge is spent.

The person talking about shield proficiencies, not only are you wrong about Wyll not having shield proficiency (he does), you are wrong that characters without shield proficiency would not get the spell slot (they do). Maybe think before blindly writing nonsense on the internet.
