Game crashes my Steam Deck on load

I just got this game - says it's playable on Deck.

I installed on my PC, then on the deck. Ran on the PC and got through the intro movie and character creation, saved the game, and let it synch to cloud for cross-save.

Later, I ran it on the deck, and it comes up with the Larian launcher, which I signed into.
Run the game and it comes up with a weird Windows dialog with usage instructions for dxdiag, which goes away after a few seconds. Then the game loading screens come up, then the deck reboots.

In desktop mode it doesn't crash, but sits on loading screen forever, playing the load music. Deck is locked up, can't get any response to pressing the steam or menu buttons, or keyboard commands. Though the mouse moves. I had to hard power cycle it to exit the loading screen.

Anyone else?

Same here, not sure how it got a playable rating. It reboots the deck for me once you get past initial loading screen.

Switching from Vulkan to DirectX in the launcher seems to have fixed the crashing issue.
But now I see it doesn't support controllers - so unless you want to use a mouse with your deck, it's kinda useless anyway.

DirectX was working for me about a month ago, isn't now. I know on my fedora based desktop it appears to have an issue with the latest mesa in the repos (23.1.3) causing AMD GPU resets - may be fixed win 23.1.4 but I am unsure. Not sure what version SteamOS is running these days.

Far as I know, Svenhas said that it doesn't really work on the Steam deck yet.

Having the same issue. My instance will crash a few seconds after playing the loading audio track on Vulkan. Switching to DirectX will let the game load

I believe Larian has said the release version will be more fully deck compatible, so I'm just waiting to see. It doesn't really matter to me as long as performance with DX is fine.

Not tried the Deck. But a recent whole pc overhaul for me had me change an nvidia gpu into an AMD. (not a single component got taken over other then a storage drive. Which has no installs, just music/pics/films etc) It worked before, flawlessly even. But now, it crashes my whole PC.

Maria, have you tried switching it from Vulkan to DirectX on the launcher? Steamdeck uses an AMD GPU so it might be an AMD/Vulkan incompatibility in their code.

There's no launcher for me. What I did was, as I remembered that from my previous PC. What I did was rename BG3.exe to BG3Not Today.exe and renamed BG3_dx11.exe to BG3.exe Now it works, I lost my save though, but that's fine, really.
