Game won't launch on mac

The game has apparently installed OK, and it verifies files OK, but won't launch. Just a bouncy icon for a bit, then no more bounce but no game window.

System monitor indicates "application not responding"

I am playing on a 2019 iMac, 3 Ghz 6-Core Intel i5; Radeon Pro 570X 4GB graphics; 8 GB RAM; System macOS Ventura 13.5

I know the specs are lower than those recommended, but I had expected to be able at least to launch the game and lower screen resolutions etc. to make it work. I have tried setting a range of screen resolutions before launching the game, but that hasn't made any difference.

Any ideas?

Have you tried geforce now? I have, with my mac mini m2, and it does not work.

OK finally got this to work. It was part of a more general problem running Steam after OSX upgrade to Ventura. Initially it looked like I couldn't launch any games at all from Steam... eventually I got a few games to run simply by waiting about 10 minutes after clicking "play".

It looks like something major has to happen in the background the first time you run a game after the system update. After that, the game launches normally.

For BG3, it took like an hour for OSX / Steam / BG3 to get their collective sh** together and launch the app. After that, it launches quickly, and given my system specs I'm impressed the game is running smoothly on medium graphics settings.

Did it end up working for you, because I'm having a similar problem I have a 2020 iMac with 16GB ram and similar graphics card and My OS is up to date

I haven't tried again. Need to cancel. I'll just stick w/ EA and trust the real Mac version will be out soon.

but after 75 minutes it works now, so you need a lot of patience first start up

There is no native support on macOS for the only good graphics APIs worth using anymore, you'll get issues. Apple killed Apple gaming years ago when they pulled OpenGL support.

That's bull, both Metal and Vulkan work on Mac and especially Metal is very clean to use. It's just that the market is way smaller so developers don't give it the same quality and support.

I have no performance issues on M1 Max, but there are annoying crashes on save sometimes.

I just discovered BG3 uses Vulkan, so that's why we have a Mac version at all.

Larian Support is not THAT fast.

Yoooo I have the same iMac model as you, but my version is currently Big Sur 11.7.10
Just got the game recently and I too cannot launch it. It just runs for a few seconds, then “Larian Crash Reporter” pops up. But since you got it to run, I still have hope.
What can I do? Do I keep retrying or is it something technical? 🙏🙏
