"...deals additional damage equal to your strength modifier."
And that is EXACTLY what it does, no more, no less. It does not change your chance to hit, it simply rolls like ANY other bow, then adds your strength bonus on top of the final damage roll. if your strength is 18, it will add 4 damage on top of it's normal damage roll. THAT IS IT. I swear, people have reading comprehension issues. If you have strength = 0, then this is simply a standard magical +1 bow. Look at your combat log after shooting an enemy with it.
Yes it works the same way for me. Is why my dex ranger has 14 str. (And to carry some stuff:D)
So to be clear it adds your dex and proficiency bonus and the weapons +1 bonus to your attack score. So for a level 10 ranger with 20 dex this should be:
5+4+1 =10.
The damage roll will be if he has 14 dex = d6 or d8? cant recall + 1+4+2-> these are all piercing type. And then any other bonus damage is applied.
The only exception is using flame, acid and any of the kind special bows because then the normal piercing damage is not added, just the flame damage and the other bonus damage(if you are lucky)
Was the first thing i checked when i got it.
Also this topic like a few others actually were made because of reading comprehension issues.
But for instance there is the Sword of Life stealing which actually deals extra damage to the opposite what it writes:D So it deals necro damage only to Undead and constructs, where it should be the other way around as per description. (Some folks tested it out:D)
Combat Log shows it worked for me, it just doesn't show the Str being added before the hit, so it is a slightly inaccurate prediction of damage.
