Failed to load the main menu from the current game mod
Hi all,

Having a problem with my game. It worked fine earlier, then I made the apparently major mistake of trying a mod. This apparently was a very bad idea.

It didn't work, so I removed all the mod data, but since then I have gotten this Error message every time I start the game before reaching the main menu screen.

"Failed to load the main menu from the current game mod. The main menu in that mod requires the level. Make sure to clear any local mods and try again. If the problem persists, please contact Larian support."

As mentioned, I have deleted all of the mod data already.

I've already tried to do the following

1. Restarted my computer
2. Verified my files
3. Uninstalled then reinstalled the game
4. Deleted the mod file at C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3

None of this has solved my problem.

Any advice?

I am having the same issue. Good to know uninstalling and reinstalling did not help, do not feel like downloading 126GB. Hopefully someone can help.

So, good news and bad news, I got it to work again by deleting everything in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's, then verifying my files again.

However now trying to launch in Direct X 11 causes an instant crash, doesnt even let me get to before the menu, but it will launch with Vulkan. The issue is there is now no sound at all /sigh...... at least i can play the game now I suppose.

Fixed it. Go to %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\ and delete the entire Baldurs Gate 3 folder to delete any hidden mods

First thank you as you pointed me in the right direction. I was able fixed it by deleting modsettings.lsx in BOTH %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\\Baldur's Gate 3\global\ AND %AppData%\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public Just doing one did not seem to help

I had this problem suddenly today and deleting the modsettings.lsx file solved it… except now when I actually attempt to load my game, it says

Different Mod Settings
The following add-ons were enabled on save, but are now disabled in the mod menu:
ModularCiri (my ONE installed mod 😓)
Continue without these add-ons?

And when I select yes, it crashes. (Probably because my character was wearing the Ciri set when I saved.)

Is my saved file nuked? Is there a way to get that mod working again? I tried re-enabling it in BG3 Mod Manager but the original problem came back (where it won’t even load the main menu).

Tried this and still getting the same message...

Uninstalled and deleted everything everywhere, reinstalled and still getting the same message...

NOT a mod friendly game, even without mods...

Many others having the same problem.

A fix I found here worked for me you have to scroll down until you see the comment with the code by QueenBoomkin

https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/97?tab=posts

Basically, the Mod Manager has been deleting the GustavDev mod which is the Full Release Mod Fixer.

So you have to add it back to the LSX file in order for Mods to work.

Deleting the modsettings.lsx file worked for me, I had to delete 3 of them in order for it to work again.

Does anyone know how to return the game to a vanilla state. I have completely removed all the files after a uninstall and then reinstalled the game and still receive the warning message ...

I don't want to mod the game just play it...
PowerSpike Aug 6, 2023 @ 7:31am
Honestly, why is this even a problem happening with a game who's dev's claim to be "mod friendly" ...if when you mod the game you can't play it again even after a total reinstall.
Nakano-Azusa Aug 6, 2023 @ 9:55am
hello, you can try to download the BasketEquipment's modsettings.lsx and put it in AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public :lunar2019piginablanket: im just did it the mod can use again

this wouldnt be happening if Larian actually had steam mod workshop support for BG3
