Overheating and beeping battery back up
This game makes my battery back up beep and flash. It is 100% this game, I have checked. When it starts, if I alt tab to desktop, it stops immediately. If I shut down the game it stops and does not start again until playing this game. Other games are fine.

It also overheats like crazy if I choose Vulcan. The PC shut down from heat. I have had this system a few months and these things have not happened with any other game.

I have an i7 12700kf 3.60ghz, with 32gig system ram, and an rtx 3070 8gig. Game is installed on a WD black NVMe. Liquid cooling, etc, the pc runs hot with most titles, but not hot enough to shut down like this. The battery back up is also only a few months old, same as pc, only beeps after playing this game for a time.

EDIT: Thank you Dewes, and everyone, it was the FPS limit I needed. It sits at about 55-65 now, with zero beeping power supply.

That's really odd.

I have way weaker system (16GB RAM, 2070 Super, Ryzen 5 3600) and never had this happen.

By battery, do you mean your PCU?

Also what are your temperatures / settings / resolution?

Try limiting the fps

The game may be the trigger, but it's not the cause. If your battery backup is kicking in then perhaps your computer is not getting enough power. This can be caused by a poorly performing PSU or drawing more power than the PSU is rated for. In some rare cases it could be caused poorly performing wall outlet. In any case though, this is a hardware problem. Software can not trigger a power failsafe to trip without the failsafe seeing lowered (or no) power readings.

There are a few things you could try to troubleshoot:
  • Use CoreTemp to track your temps and power draw in the game. Does anything seem off?
  • Download Cinebench (free) and run the test while running CoreTemp. Any issues?
  • Set the frame cap limit in BG3 to 60fps (not sure if you can go lower? If so, test with lower). This should limit some of the power draw. Does anything change?
  • In your BIOS limit your CPU power to 70% or so of max. Anything change?

APC Battery Back-Up, keeps my pc running when the power goes out.

I auto-detected and it set it to ultra. But then I bumped it down to high when this started happening. I am just running 1080p, I do not have a fancy monitor :D

I am going to try limited FPS like the other person suggested. That may be the answer.

It is 100% fine, only when playing this game. So I appreciate the help, but there is nothing wrong with the system otherwise. Most games the temp is around 65-75. I did not see what temp it was when it shut down, I just touched the case and determined it was way hot from that. I have no intention of attempting to duplicate the heat shut down lol. I am going to try limiting FPS before I start messing with the BIOS and what not for something that happens with one piece of software.

Had a simliar issue here with my rig. It's 10 years old so hey i knew there was a possibility of something going wrong but holy crap. I played early access with no issues bar some lag while playing and the occasional cutscene issue. Then release came and wow it's been a bumpy one.

OS: Win 10
CPU: AMD FX 8150 Bulldozer 3.6Ghz
Motherboard: ASRock 890FX Deluxe5
RAM: 16Gb
GPU: Nvidia GTC 1050 Ti
PSU: 700w

I played in Directx11 and again saw graphical errors but more so than in early access and also got stuck with some of my characters being in cut scenes but also stuck in combat. Weird things like that. So i decided to change my settings and play in Vulkan.. Wow that was a mistake. I played for about an hour before my PSU popped and that was the end of that. Upon opening my PC the PSU was hot to the touch (like burn your hand hot) yet the CPU heatsink remained relatively cool considering the heat coming from the PSU. I waited and tried to turn my PC back on but it was dead. I ordered a new one from amazon and fitted it next day.

I've been playing on and off for a day now and it still runs hot while playing DirectX11 but no way near to the extent Vulkan did for me with the old PSU and no i'm not trying it again.

Not sure why it runs so hot and i would of expected my GPU to overheat not my PSU.

I'll keep doing tests but so far it's the only game to kill my PC in 10 years.

So far it's been worth it but holy crap if it dies again i may wait until they sort out settings for older machines.

Yea capping framrates at 60 seemed to really help. I dont see temps over 70 now.

It is also most likely a bios/mobo related issue. If your computer is that old then it is very likely so. (A 10 year old mobo and a 1050 TI is not really meant for this game, they WORK, but they are really pushing it. The CPU is actually the thing that probably fares the best in this rig for this game)
