Could you ask them if they have the Behir Blue Die skin?
Also, that sounds definitely like a router/firewall issue. I am surprised it failed with Hamachi as well.
Try resetting your network adapters. To do this, click Start or if using Win 10 click Search. Next type ‘cmd’ into the search box, then click Command Prompt and select run as administrator. Type ’netsh winsock reset’ and hit enter. When that is done, there should be a message 'Winsock reset completed successfully'. At that point, type ‘exit’, hit enter and reboot your computer.
If applicable, in your routers try enabling UPnP. Check if there is a DMZ function, or any NAT settings you can adjust. Whoever is hosting can try setting up port forwarding in their router to connect to the PC (ports 23253-23262 and 23243-23252).
After a few times you need to apply this

There is currently an issue with PlayerProfiles which can prevent connections. Make sure both of you do as instructed before trying it again, okay?
And let me know if they have the Behir Blue Die skin as well ~ here is an image how you can find it ingame: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/2008095100962684822/900521D87ADB90BC205E56394703848104E038A8/
There were 3 of us on STEAM and one on GOG, impossible to play together in direct connection with NATpunch error. We finally succeeded by doing this:
- Player 1 on STEAM uses Direct Connect and sends the code ONLY to Player 2 on GOG
- ONLY AFTER player 2 joins the lobby, player 1 on Steam sends an invitation WITH STEAM (no code) to player 3 and player 4
So far so good doing it this way
