Here is what happened
At level 2 I tried this in 2 different ways
1. I used the level-up button under the portrait picture everything was fine.
2. I used the level-up button on the top of the inventory and my Shadowheart portrait changed into a weird black shadow portrait.
I guess the cause of this problem might happen when level up the character with the button in the inventory tab.
Seems like using the level-up button under the portrait solves this problem for me.
If you be patient when lvl up your chars and let the game really load everything, and then add some bonus seconds, the greyed out /black portraits will not show up.
I lvled up from the portrait and they changed anw. Its not related to where u click to lvl up. I will try some of the ''solutions'' here and if any works I will edit this comment.
Pressing the level up at the portrait was fine for me.
Yeah, didn't hapen with my "main", but I created a character today and it disappeared when leveling to lv 2. Pretty annoying, hope it can be fixed.
Ty for the workaround, I was exactly thinking it might work, but didn't want to get withers to discover it does now work.
None of this worked for me. The portrait remains bugged with very bright hair.
