Game wont launch, help

Whenever I try to launch the game steam says it launches then it doesn't and the game doesn't launch. I tried going and launching the executable and the game screen popped up then disappeared just as quickly. The executable for the launcher included with the game literally did nothing

As a heads up, holding Shift when clicking the BG3.exe in the bin folder is what worked for me when many other options were not working. I was able to run the game in EA on my windows 7 machine while the full release was not working (skipping the launcher, running the exe from the bin folder, reinstalling video drivers, the DotNetCore runtime, etc)

There is an issue in Windows 7 where setting an application to "Run as Admin" is different from shift clicking an exe:

There should be bg3.exe (running the Vulkan version) and bg3_dx11.exe. Right click on the executable of your choice to bring up the menu. While you have the menu up, hit the Shift key and *** keep holding it ***. Click on the menu option to run the file as administrator, and let it boot up (still holding the Shift key). Once it has booted past the black screen into the game, you can naturally stop pressing Shift.

I had a similar issue.
I followed the full uninstall and re-install instructions prior to launch and couldn't get it to work; at the end of the day what worked for me is I needed to go to the "//User/../AppData/Local" folder and delete the "Larian Studios" folder there, before it launched via the bg3.exe in the bin folder; still cannot get the steam launch to work directly. Hope this helps.

I'm on Windows 11 and the only way to start up the game is having Steam closed. It works great then, but only then.

Kinda annoying to not have playtime, achievements and cloud saving working... hopefully they will fix it in upcoming Hotfix 1 patch (should be today based on devs Twitter)... without me losing my existing progress I made while playing off-Steam.

There are other posts you have to go into the game files and launch either the BG3.exe or the BG3 dx 11.exe to run. Has issues with the Steam launcher for some reason. So I created a shortcut to desktop of the BG3 DX11.exe and it seems to run now.

Aaaaand it is working now! The patch mentions fixing Steam API issues and after downloading the update the game works like a charm. Lovely.
