Launching Baldur's Gate 3 on Linux with Proton
If you are trying to launch Baldur's Gate 3 on Linux with Proton, here is how to do it without it crashing on launch.

With Proton 5.0-9 profile selected, launch the game and let the first-time runners install the extra goodies required. Once complete, navigate to the game install directory and inside the Launcher folder, rename the LariLauncher.exe to LariLauncher.exe.Bak. Navigate up one directory to the bin, and copy the bg3.exe to the Launcher directory you were just inside. Rename the bg3.exe to LariLauncher.exe.

After replacing the launcher file, you should be good to go!

My system is Pop_Os! 20.04 LTS with a 2700X and 1080 Ti.

I am stuck in the same boat. I tried renaming thing, now I have move all the LariLauncher files to a directory and created a symlink to the bg.exe - that did not work as well. As I was writing this tried the copy and rename thing with all the LariLauncher files in a separate directory

Please have a look at the proton github page. in the ticket for BG3 there is a solution to run the game with the GE Proton fork and a protonfix file.

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4243

I played the first few minutes of the game without an issue so far, aside from some strange stuttering on the intro animation.
