Updating takes too long

So up untill 2 days ago I had no problem updating but recently everytime there's an update, be it big or small, steam takes FOREVER to "preallocate" "confirm" and what not. Actual downloading is fine and fast but for some reason the process takes forever. This only happens to me with BG3. Today for the 800 mb update It took me 1 hour to fully update, with the actual "downloading" time being 1 minute. Does this happen to anyone else?

Same for me, I have been preallocating and downloading since yesterday. Seems to change between 500 or 800mb file data. Thinking of re-installing if nothing works today.

Do you have any other 80GB game in Steam? It should take about same amount of time for any other game of similar size. (Steam makes full copy of game during patching.)

The first three hotfixes installed nearly instantly, but this patch both yesterday and today takes forever to preallocate and then install

My update for today says it estimates over a year to complete and is sitting at 1.8GB/1.8GB.

A whole year? lmao. I've just finished listening the full "The Pick of destiny" album while installing this patch (and still going), i wonder what's causing such bottleneck in my hard disk?

Because Steam updates are a big pile of sh|t

Same for me. Never encountered something like this before. Didn't even let me log in to Steam after I restarted so I had to clear some space on the hard disc.
