Also, if your friend is a host, ask him to send your character to the wardrobe, and have him go to Araj with Astarion without you, then talk to Astarion during a long rest and only then return your character to the game.
Of course, this requires having a backup save game so you can replay if your plan fails.
I think I figured it out. Several more rests did not unlock the so called unprovoked confession. So I am inclined to say that now you need to kill Yurgir or talk to Araj to proceed. A few patches back Astarion at High approval spilled the beans simply upon reaching Moonrise.
As for me, after I killed Yurgir it triggered the very next rest.
Also I watched some old videos and the unprovoked confession dialogue became the post Yurgir dialogue.
