Talk to Thorm first, or get his Relic?

So I've almost finished Shar's Gauntlet, but the game's warned me that I may miss out on stuff if I proceed further on this questline.

I then decided to check Moonrise. Rescued the Tieflings and the greedy Deep Gnome, talked with the knowledge-obsessed Drow on the upper floor, and some others, except for actually talking to Thorm.

Question is, does talking to Thorm have bad consequences on getting his Relic? I'm planning to fight him, but I would ideally want to get the Relic first. I'd also love to have some trashtalking with him, and I worry that if I get the relic first before talking to him, he might just straight up fight me if I do that first before going into the throne room.

You can talk to him first. I did the same thing you did and went back. It was honestly kind of funny doing it that way - you'll see why.
