Started with Cleric,should I respec to have Shadowheart in my party?

I started with a dwarf Cleric, but I heard Shadowheart is important for the story. Should I respec to another class? Please advise and thank you for your time.

I recommend that if you keep her mainly in your active party, but it is not necessary. You can still skill her as cleric to fulfill some other role than your main character.

Shadowheart has a big chunk of story and one of the more interesting companions

Respeccing any of them makes no difference from what everyone has said. They still go through the story normally. I turned mine into a warlock because I like have pretty things on team and I could always use more pushers ;-p Also my main is a Cleric so she was redundant.

I'm not sure if you actually have to take her with you all the time for her story. Maybe to one dungeon, in act II, but apart from that their stories can unfold while they stay in the camp. Otherwise you would be bound to go with three companion stories and miss the other three.

more than one cleric is never bad imo. one can have bless always up and be more of a caster while the other is more focused on damage or melee. right now i reclassed shadowheart into 1 storm sorc rest tempest cleric and its great. she can do a bit of everything for me
