Ah. Did you somehow kill mith & DR without whacking all the guards in their rooms and around the torture area? I can see how pulling all that at once would be a pile. In that case any way you can control a room and get them to come through a doorway is gonna be useful. But the rafters are good too, between throwing guys off and the limited access. Just don't get thrown off in turn.
The issue is that it sounds like OP left the Temple in full and is having issues not only getting past all of Gut's guards, but the guards out front of the Temple. If they cannot get through that, best bet is the method through the Underdark I outlined above 'cause there is few fights, and definitely fewer numbers in what fights they'd have to handle.
They can push from the backlines in the Temple once they get inside from the Underdark.
