Umbral Gems will not unlock second altar

Yes, I have all 4 gems. Yes, the first altar only asks for a single gem which activates the disc in Shar's Gauntlet.
We ride the disc to the second altar right before the stone door which would lead to the Shadowfell, but this second altar does not work.

Hours have been spent. I insert all 3 gems, it says "Insert successful", then only one gem shows itself on the altar. When I try again all of my gems have disappeared from my inventory and the character says "I have nothing to put here".

I, literally, cannot continue in the game because I have to enter Shadowfell to reach the Nightsong. This is my 4th play through and the first time it wont work.

I have tried dropping the gems and picking them up with a different character. I have sent the gems back to camp when trying the first altar, I have long rested on the elevator, I have saved and reset, I tried to glitch through the wall using teleportation or misty step.

HOW DO I GET THE SECOND ALTAR TO TAKE ALL 3 GEMS? WHY DOES IT STEAL ALL 3 BUT ONLY PUT ON GEM ON THE ALTAR??

I had this same issue. The easiest way i got past the door was using the spell 'Knock'. Its a lv 2 transmutation spell. I just went to Withers and had him change my class ( only 100 gold so kinda a steal) and selected wizard, and made sure my evocation was set to Transmutation. Put whatever spells you want but MAKE sure you have 'Knock' selected and on your hot bar. Once you get in the door, get the way point and go back to camp and have Withers change your class back to whatever it was before.

I am also having this same exact problem, I have opted to used Knock as suggested and it works. But wtf, I did this quest just fine during the two multiplayer games I'm in, but now it won't work for my solo campaign. I suspect one of the recent patches/hotfixes bugged something with the Umbral Gems.

Yea pretty sure it was one of the patches cause I had the same thing where I didnt have any issues in one of my earlier games. Hopefully they fix it in the future

Hii, I had the same problem today, wasted too many hours on it just to realise I could get Gale and use the knock spell on the door. And it worked

It does look like they patched the bug. Make sure your game is updated and to insure the update is applied to your game file, remove all mods, load into the game without mods, make a new save without mods, close the game and then you can add your mods back. Hopefully that does the trick!
