While this is going on before you rescue Halsin you can also uncover Kagha's real reason for sealing the grove. If you find evidence you can confront her and potentially shut her down before the major fights in the goblin dungeons.
I think you probably missed the part where you convince the tieflings to stay right when you enter the grove. It's possible they may stay for a while, like a long rest or two, but I've never gone down that road during the quest to see if I could do everything before they leave.
When I went to save Haslin he was already dead.
The quest changed, to "You must inform Cerys that the road is clear" but she is not there anymore.
Zevlor's second in command?
... What? no they won't. i was trying everything possible to convince the teiflings to leave, all i got was Zevlor attacking me, and me not being able to tell Nettle that Halsin is dead.
Leaving the grove so they won't be attacked by goblins is one thing they seem determined NOT to do.
If you attack the druids without revealing Kahga's clandestine ties then all of the druids will be ordered to purge the refugees, during which live combat will begin between the tieflings and the druids while you are left to battle Kahga and whoever else is in the sanctuary at the time. So while your hands are tied, the tieflings and druids outside will be killing one another (the druids being heavily poised to win if your intervention is not timely). If and when you should kill all of the druids, the tieflings will then leave the grove along with any quest opportunities you had with them.
As for Halsin personally, I am unsure if he is a timed objective or not post-discovery of the goblin camp as I've done no testing myself. I have always resolved everything I needed to during my first visitation to the goblin camp, but there has been speculation that Halsin may die if you should take too many long rests after discovering the ruins.
So if i want to save the teiflings while also aligning myself with the goblins, i just need to attack the druids unprovoked, and the teiflings will leave the grove?
If you win this encounter against the druids with minimal losses on the tieflings' side (you would have to have split your party to at least try to protect the tieflings outside to prevent loss of life, if that was something you cared about) then the tieflings will immediately leave thereafter declaring the grove is no longer safe. As was my experience with the matter.
Now as for whether or not this "saves" the tieflings, which I doubt it qualifies as but I did not play this entire scenario through to see the long-term cause and effects, is a matter of speculation. As I said, I do not think this qualifies, and I believe that the goblin alliance would also be rendered implausible because they have nobody left to slaughter. But I did not check the full extent of that encounter either.
