Why Is Minor Illusion Not Working?

There are a group of enemies having a chat. Nearby is a trap that will kill them if they move near it. So I use Minor Illusion because they should investigate the cat, move towards the trap, and meet a grisly death, right? Well, instead none of them so much as react to the suddenly visible ethereal cat. Inside of sight lines, outside of sight lines, in front of, alongside, practically on top of? Nope. Doesn't matter. Nobody cares. I did this same thing in early access and it worked. But it's not working now?

I move back to a place where there are NPCs and cast minor illusion. No less than three NPCs move to investigate.

Am I doing something wrong or has Minor Illusion changed?

In order to use it and let them react make sure to attack first so they are hostile. Then disengage from battle and cast minor illusion. However as of today undead creatures does not react to illusion at all.
