The thread was already quite old before your recent post.
Long story short: expose Kagha before freeing Halsin, or you miss your chance as he will resolve the problem. That is part of the story as the Shadowdruid quest is entirely skipable.
If I ever start a new playthrough then I will do things in a slightly different order. I got my desired outcome by killing the goblin leaders and saving the grove as well as the tieflings but I wish I would have resolved the Kagha thing before that. Next time...
NOTE: There are other timers much more strict than that one which start as soon as you enter the area and won't even allow one long rest or leaving the immediate area. Chances are you already found one even before going to the Grove and resolved it without realizing it was on a rest/location timer.
Thanks for the info on the Kagha timer. Yes, I was aware of other timers, like after rescuing Halsin, I had to long rest because the fights to get him out were quite spell consuming. He actually warns you not to dawdle when you enter camp so I knew that there was a limit to the rests.
I created another thread somewhere around here asking about this because I would have preferred to rest at least once more between killing the three leaders and clearing that goblin temple.
No one really had an answer back then so, to be safe, I killed the three leaders and cleared the temple without a single additional rest. This took me literally hours of sneaking and sniping with Astarion. It was pretty tedious... a trial & error reload fest galore...
Now that much more knowledge about the mechanics and the timers is out there than back in August, I'm going to read a guide before I replay the game (the Definitive Edition).
I'm honestly not exactly a fan of the timed stuff.
Just thinking about a BG3 replay and being "required" to read a guide seems stressful ;) .
There is no timer on how long it takes to clear the temple of enemies inside and out. They'll wait for your party until your party enters the Shadowfell much later.
It is possible to kill Gut alone (or have someone else do it with the right dialog and the character not having Elf heritage), dispatch Minthara and the small group with her and the occasional patroller coming into the combat area, and kill the Dror and his immediate troupe without engaging anyone else except the three before the prison cell and the occupants in the prison cell (if they weren't dealt with prior). It'll require exceptional sneaking to get past the door guard, any remaining patrollers (that weren't handled along with Minthara), and the sniper outside the Dror's throne room, but also, it's possible to take them all out without alerting anyone else with careful (and lucky) timing and stealth (or having the ability cast the higher-level Dimension Door spell somehow like enough scrolls with the spell).
...and that's only if you need to go back and get Halsin. If he came with your party, you can just leave without worrying about leaving the Dror's throne room. (Ragzlin is the key boss that'll turn the whole place hostile upon defeat.) Of course, Goblins don't want to see him roaming around. So, that'll be its own complication.
So, your party can leave the majority of the camp inside and outside the temple alive to deal with them later if you want.
Unless your party picked up any Underdark travel portals, your party will be required to fight them to get to the Underdark (unless your party goes backwards after entering the Shadow-Cursed Lands which comes with its own tribulations in the Lands and entering the Underdark from the "wrong" end).
EDIT: There are four ways to enter the Underdark for the first time (and leave). The typical way is through the Temple of Selûne (Goblin Camp). You can also fight through the Zhentarim, drop down a hole under the Decrepit Village (ouch), and enter the "wrong" side from the Shadow-Cursed Lands. The Zhentarim route is one-way until used to enter the Underdark. Then, it becomes two way. The hole is entrance-only.
Trivia: There was a 5th way in Early Access through the Riverside Tea House "basement". It's now blocked by a wall that resembles another wall in the basement the party would encounter if Ethel is alive, but this particular wall is just a wall.
Yeah, that's kind of how I did it the first time. I entered the goblin camp and also their sanctum peacefully, talked to everyone, explored everywhere etc. and then I freed Halsin.
After freeing Halsin, I needed one long rest because of the fight against the prison guards and so I was forced to kill the three leaders without an additional rest because AFAIK Minthara will somehow automatically discover and raid the grove if you take too long after freeing Halsin.
I did talk to Minthara before, however, and I won the mini dice game where she tries to enter your mind to extract the location of the grove. AFAIK, you gain some time that way but I'm not sure how long... (?)
Anyway, as I said, I killed the three leaders mostly with Astarion and stealth/sniping and while I was at it, I cleared the whole temple for additional XP.
The priestess and Minthara were mostly "easy" but the main guy Dror took literally hours because I also took out all of his guards first. It took many, many reloads to get the timing and positioning right for sniping from the scaffolding without aggroing too many enemies at once.
When done with all the goblins and their spideys, I left via the Underdark to fast travel back to the grove where I celebrated with the druids and the tieflings, while the Kagha quest "failed" unfortunately.
Then I returned to the goblin camp and cleared the actual camp (the temple/sanctum was already 100% cleared) of the remaining goblins.
