Question about which path (SPOILERS)
So, I got onto the quest to head to the tower where you can either go through the underdark or mountain pass, well I already found the underdark so I went that way but it led me through a bunch of mushroom crap to a hag hut side quest at the bottom of the map. It kept saying I NEEDED to go there for the mountain pass and to follow that path... But as I kept following it all it did was tell me I needed to go north on the map... You don't have to go through ANY of that to reach the mountain pass, why did it send me on a wild goose chase like that?

Kind of confusing but basically I went into the underdark hoping to follow that option and instead it sent me on a crazy path all the way south, then back up to the north end of the map in order to reach the mountain pass... I didn't need to take any of that pathing at all or deal with the hag so I have no clue why it sent me all over the map instead of a direct route.

The Mountain Pass is a relatively small map that merely connects the first and second Acts. You can go directly to Act 2 from the Forge which is technically Act 1. I'd explore the underdark and forge first - then enter the lift at the forge, talk to the old man, then go back down the lift and head to the mountain pass.
