Does Enhance Ability deviate from Player's Handbook rules or am I remembering the skill incorrectly?

I saw that the Enhance Ability spell in the Player's Handbook material is supposed to activate one of six enhancements that involve granting advantage on checks of a certain ability type. I remember Baldur's Gate 3 increasing the ability score temporarily by one or two points instead. Is this correct or am I remembering incorrectly?

When I first saw the spell in BG3 it works just as intended in 5e giving advantage on skill checks of certain attributes.

You are remembering the 3.5 version, which raised your stats.

The 5e version only gives advantage on checks using that stat.

The CON one, Bears endurance, does raise your HP though, and The STRENGTH version Bulls strength does give you more carry capacity.
