What Even Is A 'Proximity Explosive' In D&D?
So I'm watching someone play in the Zhent basement right now and they're clearing out 'proximity explosives', and I can't stop myself from thinking about how absurd this feels in a D&D game.

I mean, this isn't Metal Gear Solid, right?

Why does Larian insist on filling every square inch of the screen with explosives? I just don't get it, it feels really stupid...

I thought they were like normal bombs just infused with magic?

Are they magical? I mean, if so, they ought to be subject to Dispel Magic when we finally get that spell...

I mean they’re just traps. Like in the original Baldur’s Gate games except 100 times less obnoxious. I’d rather proximity mines than those absolutely retarded lightning bolt traps that go undetected for no reason and end up one-shotting half your team.

But where does a 'proximity explosive' even come from in Faerun?

Really, do you know so little about DnD and the Forgotten Realms settings?

Stuff like that actually exists in dnd... just magical.

Can OP just let this die and merge it with this other post about the same damn thing he is complaining about.

I would just like to point for posterity that OP is now grasping at straws SO HARD, that they are now trying to attack the one place in the game where overwhelming amounts of explosives and detonation devices/traps are expected and lore friendly.

Really, can you do anything besides try to witch hunt things that aren't a problem?

They could try actually getting good at the game but that's probably too much effort.

Actually in this regard as pandariuskarios mentions dispel magic should work on them. Since Glyph of warding is a spell, as are explosive runes, and in this regard since a delayed fireball could be also used as a trap, delayed fireball. (Not that we have the spell since it is level 3 afaik but i might be wrong. My knowledge is mostly 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 so I apologize if i am wrong with 5.0.)

The thing is, proximity explosives, or mines, i would associate more commonly with Eberron instead of FR. But because i am not that well versed in FR i did not really found this so troublesome. Also since Zhents are quite the shadowy organization, they could have used and implemented some gnomish devices not really known and so on. So yes this is not something to be that hung upon.

No, you're correct. We have no way of knowing if dispel magic would work on it or not yet because we can't get to that level yet and I personally have never found a dispel magic scroll.

Yet again, OP is looking for things to be upset at, at this point.
