You can't loot people you talk to and let walk away. Why on earth would you TALK to them?
The fight is winnable with smart strategy. You know the fight is coming, so buff your party ahead of time with Aid, False Life, Shield of Faith, etc. Split the party and leave two on high ground, and only take Lae'zel and your PC down to meet the Gith. The hardest part is surviving the first turn, which is what your buffs are for. Once the fight starts, use a Potion of Speed on Lae'zel if you have one. Use a caster to crowd control with web or something similar. It's a tough fight because they're Level 5 and get an extra attack, while you're capped at Level 4, but it's not impossible.
And this is as far as you can go with this quest at this point. The Creche is located in the area beyond the bridge, which is currently not part of the Early Access content. It's possible it will be added later during EA, as it's probably meant to be part of Act 1 (since like the Underdark, it's one of the paths to Moonrise Towers).
